This was my very first time at an historical city, and I might as well admit that it's quite interesting... The streets, the old buildings, the monuments, they made me feel like I belonged in the past for some minutes. I really loved it there. Hopefully, I can return to this city in another opportunity, specially off the carnival.

I have many times visited the town over a forty-year period, and I am always pleased. It is a bustling historic city best to be visited during week days. Week-ends bring hordes of day tourists who invade the streets and the small beaches. Pity it takes four hours to travel by road from Rio.A place worth a visit, nonetheless.

You know, I didn't know what to expect when I went to Paraty, but boy did I have fun! The twisty drive from RIO was a totally scenic once and totally worth it. I's a coastal drive, so if you get car sick, take a Dramamine. The city itself features historical buildings and cobblestone streets that were put in by slaves. Within these buildings are some kitschy little shops that are mostly geared towards tourists. I did find a few shops that featured the work of local artisans, but everything was to expensive to buy. Definitely make it a point to take one of the various boat tours. We took one during sunset and it was absolutely gorgeous. Next time i'd make this an overnight trip, because we tried to make it a day trip, so by the time we got back to RIO, we were exhausted.

I've been to Paraty several times. You have the city itself plus the islands and waterfalls closw to that.

A unique place to visit. The architecture is amazing, it's a pity it is not conserved as it should. The are lots of buildings without proper maintenance.

Very interesting old city in Brasil. A lot of old buildings with the long history. I strongly recommend to see this unique area

We were on a cruise in a sufficiently small ship that we were able to pull into this secluded harbor. This beautiful and peaceful old town was wet due to a high tide, and will not fare well as we continue to pollute Mother Earth.

lovely city center...stone roads are hard to walk but you can image chariots and horse everywhere! (actually there are chariots to take a tour!)walk around... get yourselves lost in the old roads

Plan a stroll and slow, do not miss the Paraty Historical Center and the pier especially at the end of the day on sunset for picture time

Paraty is well known by its cultural activities. The city host the FLIP. The fair for writers and readers. You can find local literature and very famous international writers. Also the city has the "Festa do Divino" (Divine Party). It is a Catholic celebration. Groups of local artist walk around the city playing music and singing songs, reciting poems and enchanting people with the local beautiful culture. In addition, you find the religious celebrations all over the town. Carnival, which is a famous holiday in Brazil is another demonstration of how culture is powerful in Paraty. You will find the blocks, which means a group of people and in this case dressing up costumes and singing old carnival songs. Paraty is well know all over the world as a place where you can find many foreign people. So, don´t be surprised to hear different languages, even your own language. Some of the visitors fell in love with the place and adopted as their city, making the place their forever home.

Small city, very well preserved. Colourful and beautiful portuguese architecture. Lots of good restaurants, nice Pousadas and crafts shops. Look for the "Teatro de Bonecos", the local cachaca and the sweet vendor for "quebra-queixo.

A lovely, although touristic little city. Make sure you wear good shoes, the roads are cobbled but with big stones and walking can prove tricky. There are many good restaurants.

As I have family living in Brazil I was treated to a visit to Paraty , After the long drive, arriving to the historical city was as if we had traveled in time . The stone paved streets , made by slaves 500 hundred years ago , so i was told , the beautiful architecture , the bookshops , bars and restaurants , the friendly people made us change our minds and stay for a couple of days longer . Very wise decision , indeed , as with more time we were able to take a boat and see the incredible beaches , fauna and flora of this dreamy city .

Start here and wander the cute streets, get lost and keep on wandering. You will see fun things around every corner I thought the shops had so good values except lots of stuff from Indonesia. The location and city are worth the trip to see an authentic Brazilian colonial town that takes you back to 1500 Brazil. Fab community.

I heard about Paraty before visiting and I thought is another over advertised place. You actually have to see this place to feel it. A colonial town full of live and character! A must see if you travel to Brazil!
